Hello students, members, and website visitors! My name is Aga and I am excited to be this year's BMES President and am even more grateful for the opportunity to lead an organization that facilitates innovation, community, and professional development.
I am currently a fourth year undergraduate student in the Bioengineering Department focusing my studies in Neural Engineering. An appreciation for medical devices and bioinstrumentation has also led me to pick up a minor in Electrical Engineering. My involvement with BMES has gone as far back as my freshman year and has given me the chance to continue as an Executive Board Secretary and Treasurer. I am thrilled to be on the Board again this year as President and bring new and returning members events, opportunities and resources that can benefit a broad scope of student interests.
I am proud to be a part of BMES, an organization that brings together creative and intellectual individuals to achieve common goals, promotes professional development, encourages peer mentoring, encourages diversity, and stimulates awareness of scientific advancements within the field of Bioengineering. Whether your future interests are in pursuing a future in medicine, industry, graduate school, or research, we have plenty of events that will benefit all of our members, including a number of social events throughout the year.
When I'm not hanging out or studying in the library at odd hours of the day, I enjoy exploring the city, checking out coffee shops, visiting the gym, and listening to lots of music/podcasts.
Feel free to contact me about any questions you may have, I'm always happy to chat! firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com
Vice President - Dharma Patel
I am third year bioengineering student. This is also my third year in BMES and second year as a board member. I was secretary last year. As VP, I help plan events big and small, all of which are designed to give our members the opportunities to get information about their careers after leaving UIC. In addition, I lead the mentorship program, You & Me in BME. I hope this year to continue the tradition of giving mentors and mentees the time and place to talk about important issues like classes, grades, internships, and career opportunities. When I'm not in school, I enjoy reading and watching TV. My favorite author is Neal Stephenson and my favorite shows are The Good Doctor and Veep.
My advice for underclassmen and transfer students is to join the mentorship program and get the answers to the questions they have about the BioE program at UIC, graduate school and industry.
My name is Mateusz, (I usually go by Matt). I am a Senior Bioengineering student with a cell and tissue concentration. I joined BMES my Sophomore year to be a part of the myoelectric arm team, advanced to project leader of the Smart Glove, and now here I am as the Project Manager. I am excited to see the creativity bursting out of all students who join my project and add their own original input this year, as I hope to make a lasting accomplishment before I leave UIC. BMES was the right club for me because I see myself applying my engineering technical skills to ideas that tend to make even one person's life just a little bit better. I found that all the skills I was learning in my early on classes (Arduino, Solidworks, programming, 3D printing) were all applicable to various scenarios a biomedical engineer may typically encounter when trying to create a device, and managing my own project helped me sharpen these skills for the entire team. In my free time my hobbies include video and board games, as well as watching Netflix, but my favorite thing to do is go out to the gym or jogging, as well as spend quality time with friends. Anybody who is interested in either joining a project or starting up their own, shoot me an email. Please!!!!! firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com
Secretary - Ali Thahab
Hi, my name is Ali. I am a sophomore Bioengineering major with an area focus of cell and tissue engineering. This is my second year of being in BMES and my first year as a board member. I am very excited to be this year’s secretary.
I joined BMES because I wanted to work with SolidWorks to create more complex objects than the ones we create in class. I joined the prosthetic team and worked closely with the project manager to design, create, and print out the thumb rotation joint we used for the prosthetic arm. It was a lot of fun and really helped give me a peek into what working on a team of engineers is like.
Outside of school and BMES I like to go work out at the gym, play video games, and hang out with friends. If you see me around don’t be shy to say “Hi”.
If you have any questions you can reach out to me here: firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com
Networker- Ritu Shah
Hi everyone! I am a senior majoring in Bioengineering with a concentration in cell and tissue engineering. I am elated to be a BMES Networker this year. This is my fourth year with BMES and my first year as a board member.
BMES has helped me work on my technical, interpersonal and professional skills. BMES provides a wide range of opportunities to enhance the skillset of its members whether they see themselves in the industry, professional school or medical school. Through BMES I have been involved in projects, social events, professional company events and the mentorship program.
While I am not in school, I enjoy being involved with sports, painting, trying out new places in the city and spending time with family and friends.
Hello Everyone! I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Bioengineering with an emphasis on Bioinformatics and a minor in Computer Science. This is my second year with BMES and my first year as a board member.
I joined BMES during my first year at UIC. I was a transfer student last fall, and through BMES, I was able to join student-led projects, attend a SolidWorks workshop, and meet really talented, motivated Bioengineering students. BMES enables students to develop their professional skills in order to prepare them for future endeavors. Through the mentorship program and the social events, BMES creates a sense of community within the Bioengineering department.
Outside of school, I like to explore the city (especially food), cook, work out, and spend time with friends and family.
